Tastenexa
Privacy Policy
Introduction
Welcome to Tastenexa ("we," "us," or "our"). Tastenexa is a meal planning and recipe application that helps you plan weekly meals, discover recipes, cook with guided steps, and manage grocery lists based on your dietary preferences.
This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect information when you use the Tastenexa mobile application and related website (together, the "App" or "Services"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your information responsibly.
By downloading, installing, accessing, or using Tastenexa, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use the App.
Important: Tastenexa is designed as a local-first application. Most of your personal meal planning data is stored on your device. We do not require you to create an account to use the core features of the App.
We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
Data Controller
The data controller is the entity responsible for determining how and why your personal information is collected, used, stored, and processed through the Meal Planner & Recipe application.
The Data Controller is responsible for handling personal information in accordance with applicable privacy and data protection laws.
If you have any questions about how your personal information is handled, or if you wish to exercise any of your privacy rights, you may contact the Data Controller using the contact information provided above.
Information We Collect
We collect information in the following ways:
Information You Provide Directly
When you use Tastenexa, you may provide:
- Dietary preferences, including diet type (e.g., vegetarian, vegan, keto, low-carb)
- Allergy and intolerance information (e.g., gluten, dairy, nuts, shellfish)
- Disliked ingredients you wish to exclude from recipe suggestions
- Serving size preferences (e.g., number of people you cook for)
- Display preferences, such as theme (light/dark/system), and measurement units (metric or imperial)
- Meal plan data, including selected recipes, weekly plans, swaps, and serving adjustments
- Grocery list data, including auto-generated items, manual additions, check-off status, and categories
- Recipe favorites and browsing or search activity within the App
- Communications you send to us, such as privacy-related inquiries or support requests
Information Collected Automatically
When you use the App, certain technical information may be collected automatically, including:
- Device information, such as device type, operating system version, app version, and language settings
- Usage and performance data, such as feature interactions, crash reports, and diagnostic logs (where enabled)
- General analytics data, such as session duration and screens viewed, collected in aggregated or de-identified form where possible
Because Tastenexa stores most meal planning data locally on your device, much of the information described above never leaves your device unless you choose to share it (for example, by copying or sharing a grocery list) or unless a feature explicitly requires a network connection.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide and operate the App, including meal plan generation, recipe recommendations, cooking mode, and grocery list consolidation
- Personalize your experience based on your diet, allergies, dislikes, and serving preferences
- Improve functionality and reliability, including debugging, performance optimization, and feature development
- Maintain security and protect against misuse or unauthorized access
- Respond to your requests, including privacy and support inquiries
- Comply with legal obligations where applicable
We process information based on one or more of the following legal bases, as applicable: your consent, performance of the Services you request, our legitimate interests in operating and improving the App, and compliance with law.
We do not use your personal information for automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects without your involvement.
Meal Plans and Grocery Lists
Tastenexa creates and stores your weekly meal plans and grocery lists on your device to provide a seamless planning and shopping experience.
This may include:
- Recipes assigned to specific days or meals
- Serving sizes and scaled ingredient quantities
- Merged grocery items with duplicate ingredients consolidated
- Manual items you add to your grocery list
- Check-off status and category organization
This data is used to:
- Generate and update your meal plan when you swap, add, or remove recipes
- Automatically build and refresh your grocery list when your plan changes
- Preserve your progress between app sessions
If you use the Reset App feature in Settings, meal plans, grocery lists, favorites, and preferences stored on that device are permanently deleted and cannot be recovered.
If you copy or share a grocery list using your device's share functionality, that action is handled by your operating system and any app you choose to share with; we do not control how third-party apps handle shared content.
Recipe Preferences and Personalization
To tailor recipe suggestions and meal plans to you, Tastenexa stores your preferences and personalization data locally, including:
- Diet type and eating style
- Allergens and ingredients to exclude
- Disliked ingredients
- Default serving size
- Favorite recipes
We use this information to:
- Filter recipes so suggested meals align with your dietary needs
- Exclude recipes containing allergens or disliked ingredients you have specified
- Score and select recipes for weekly plans based on your preferences and ingredient overlap
- Surface relevant recipes when you browse or search the library
Accuracy of preferences: Recipe filtering depends on the preferences you provide. While we apply strict exclusion rules based on your settings, Tastenexa does not provide medical or dietary advice. Always verify ingredient labels and consult a qualified professional if you have health-related dietary restrictions.
Your preferences, favorites, and related personalization data are stored to improve your in-app experience and are not sold to third parties.
Device Information
We may collect limited device and app information to ensure Tastenexa works correctly across phones, tablets, and web browsers. This may include:
- Device model and manufacturer
- Operating system and version
- App version and build number
- Screen size and display settings
- System language and locale
- Storage availability (for local database operations)
This information helps us:
- Deliver a consistent experience across platforms
- Diagnose compatibility issues
- Maintain app stability and security
Device information is generally processed in a way that does not directly identify you by name or contact details, especially in the current local-first version of the App.
Analytics and Performance
We may use third-party services to help us understand how the App is used and to monitor performance. These services may collect information such as:
- App opens and session activity
- Feature usage (in aggregated form)
- Crash logs and error reports
- Load times and performance metrics
Examples of purposes for such services include:
- Analytics — understanding which features are most useful so we can improve the App
- Crash reporting — identifying and fixing bugs more quickly
- App functionality — supporting essential technical operations where network access is required
Where we use third-party analytics or performance tools, we aim to configure them to minimize the collection of personally identifiable information. Data may be processed on servers operated by service providers in accordance with their privacy policies.
You may be able to limit certain analytics through your device settings (for example, limiting ad tracking or diagnostic data sharing), though this may not disable all technical logging required for basic app operation.
In the current version of Tastenexa, core meal planning features operate offline and without uploading your meal data to our servers. If we introduce cloud sync, accounts, or additional online features in the future, we will update this Privacy Policy accordingly.
Data Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect your information, including:
- Local storage of meal plans, grocery lists, favorites, and preferences on your device using secure local database and storage mechanisms
- Minimizing data collection to what is needed to operate and improve the App
- Restricting access to any server-side systems we operate to authorized personnel only
- Using reputable third-party providers that maintain appropriate security practices, where applicable
No method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your device, including using a passcode, biometric lock, or other protections.
If you believe your device or data has been compromised, you may use the in-app Reset App option to delete local Tastenexa data.
Your Privacy Rights
Depending on your location, you may have certain rights regarding your personal information. These may include the right to:
- Access information we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete information
- Delete your information
- Restrict or object to certain processing
- Data portability, where applicable
- Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent
Because most Tastenexa data is stored on your device, you can exercise many of these rights directly within the App:
- Update preferences — via Settings or the preference editor
- Delete favorites, plans, and lists — by editing or resetting relevant content
- Delete all App data — via Settings > Reset App
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or California, you may have additional rights under the GDPR, UK GDPR, or CCPA/CPRA. We do not sell personal information. We do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising as defined under applicable California law.
To exercise rights that cannot be fulfilled through the App, or to submit a privacy request, please contact us using the details in the Contact Us section below. We may need to verify your identity before responding.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority if you believe our processing violates applicable law.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, legal requirements, or App features. When we make material changes, we will:
- Update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy
- Provide notice within the App (for example, in Settings) and/or on our website where appropriate
Your continued use of Tastenexa after the effective date of an updated policy constitutes your acceptance of the revised terms, unless otherwise required by law. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically.
